Overdub

Overdubbing is adding new parts — vocals, horns, percussion, or effects — onto an existing tape, a standard studio practice in Kingston from rocksteady onward and central to dub's remix process.

Why it matters: Overdubs let producers recycle rhythm tracks economically. Lee Perry and King Tubby famously stripped and rebuilt mixes through overdub and tape manipulation, not only level rides.
