Production
Version
A version is the instrumental or B-side arrangement of a vocal track — often with emphasis on drums and bass — cut from the same session and released so sound systems and singers can reuse the rhythm.
Why it matters: Version culture is the economic engine of Jamaican recording: one band track supports dozens of voicings. It predates modern remix culture and explains why catalogue depth matters more than single hits for many producers.
