Dub
Dub is a studio-derived genre where engineers remix existing tracks — stripping vocals, emphasising bass and drums, and adding delay and reverb — pioneered by King Tubby, Lee Perry, and others in 1970s Kingston.
Why it matters: Dub invented remix culture before the term existed globally. Its techniques underpin electronic music, sound-system dub fi dub clashes, and the aesthetic of space and bass in modern production.
