Selector

The selector is the sound-system operator who chooses and sequences records during a dance or clash, reading the crowd and shaping the night's energy through track selection, transitions, and timing.

Why it matters: Selector skill defines whether a sound is merely loud or truly commanding. In Jamaica and across the diaspora, legendary selectors built reputations on dubplate specials, surprise drops, and the ability to answer a rival sound without missing a beat.
