Sound system culture
Sound Clash
A sound clash is a staged competition between two or more sound systems, judged on selection, dubplates, crowd response, and often verbal sparring between selectors and mic men before a paying audience.
Why it matters: Clashes are among the most dramatic public rituals in Jamaican music culture, from local dances to international events like World Clash. They pressure artists and producers to create exclusive material and keep dancehall innovation moving.
