Sound system culture
Foundation Sound
A foundation sound is a long-established sound system with deep roots in a community or era — respected for history, catalogue knowledge, and often for carrying older rub-a-dub and roots selections alongside current hits.
Why it matters: The foundation/chronic distinction maps generational taste in dancehall. Foundation sounds anchor cultural memory; newer "chronic" sounds often chase harder digital energy and younger crowds.
