Mobile Sound System

A mobile sound system is a transportable rig — vans, trucks, and hand-built boxes — assembled to bring music to lawns, street corners, and country dances across Jamaica, defining how music reached audiences outside formal venues.

Why it matters: Mobility made sound systems Jamaica's nationwide network for breaking music. Competing mobile sets in the same parish created local clash circuits that fed Kingston's larger industry.
