Sound Boy

Sound boy names the crew member who maintains amplifiers, wiring, and turntables or decks — troubleshooting hum, blown tweeters, and power issues so the selector can focus on performance when volume and reliability matter most.

Why it matters: Behind every legendary selector is technical labour. Sound boys (and increasingly women in the role) keep mobile systems running in heat, rain, and the electrical unpredictability of outdoor dances.
