Lee Scratch Perry

Lee "Scratch" Perry was a producer, vocalist, and studio visionary behind the Upsetter label and Black Ark — pioneering dub techniques, experimental overdubs, and mythic persona that influenced punk, electronic music, and reggae revivalists.

Why it matters: Perry's career spans Studio One apprenticeship to global avant-garde icon. His production philosophy — treat studio as instrument — remains a syllabus item for engineers worldwide.
