Gun Salute Dance

Gun salute dances are choreographed moves mimicking firearm gestures — often synced to hard dancehall riddims — that sparked public concern in Jamaica about violence in popular culture and influence on youth behaviour.

Why it matters: These dances sit at the intersection of performance and politics. Understanding them requires context on crime reporting, censorship, and how metaphor in yard culture reads differently abroad than at home.
