Street Dance

Street dance in Jamaica means outdoor and informal dances — lane, corner, and lot parties — where sound systems set up without stadium infrastructure, breeding fashions, rivalries, and steps that later appear on festival main stages.

Why it matters: Street dance is the research and development lab for dancehall. Major festivals and corporate sponsors often package street-born energy; tracing origins keeps credit with communities that incubate trends.
