Bashment

Bashment is colloquial for high-energy dancehall party music and the events themselves — often associated with harder digital riddims, provocative lyrics, and dances that dominate urban Jamaican nightlife.

Why it matters: The term captures dancehall's rowdy, participatory side distinct from roots reggae's spiritual weight. Media debates about bashment reflect wider tensions over morality, gender, and public space in Jamaica.
