Rockers Era

The rockers era names the late-1970s period when harder, rock-influenced drumming and prominent syndrum sounds dominated roots and early dancehall — especially through Sly and Robbie and Channel One sessions.

Why it matters: Dating the rockers era helps collectors and historians place heavyweight bass lines and drum textures. It bridges roots reggae's spiritual peak and dancehall's yard-ready energy.
