Penthouse

Penthouse Records and studio — founded by Donovan Germain — became a 1980s–1990s hit factory for lovers rock, conscious reggae, and dancehall voicings with polished production that dominated radio and export markets.

Why it matters: Penthouse bridged roots romanticism and digital dancehall commerce. Germain's session strategy produced stacked albums that defined an era for Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, and younger deejays alike.
