Lovers Rock

Lovers rock is smooth, romantic reggae — often with rocksteady-influenced harmonies — that developed among British Caribbean communities in the 1970s while remaining connected to Jamaican rhythm tracks and vocal styles.

Why it matters: Lovers rock broadened reggae's audience and gender conversation, centreing love songs and UK sound-system scenes. It remains a bridge between island production and diaspora identity.
