Shabba Ranks

1984–present

Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon (born 17 January 1966) — known as **Shabba Ranks** — was the force that carried Jamaican dancehall to mainstream international audiences in the early 1990s.

His raw, aggressive deejay style and unforgettable catchphrases made him a unique figure straddling the worlds of reggae, hip-hop, and R&B. He became the first dancehall artist to win consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album — *As Raw as Ever* (1991) and *X-tra Naked* (1992).

Collaborations with **Queen Latifah**, **Johnny Gill**, and **KRS-One** demonstrated his extraordinary crossover appeal, cementing his position as a pioneer of dancehall's global expansion.
