Harry J

Harry J Studio on Roosevelt Avenue — founded by Harry Johnson — hosted landmark sessions including Bob Marley & the Wailers' Catch a Fire and numerous rocksteady and roots sides with top Kingston musicians.

Why it matters: Harry J's eight-track facility helped internationalise reggae production quality. Island Records' involvement with Catch a Fire ties this studio to reggae's breakthrough rock-album presentation abroad.
