Duke Reid

Arthur "Duke" Reid was a former policeman and Treasure Isle founder whose sound-system fame translated into rocksteady hits — known for gun-toting stage persona, brass-heavy mixes, and Bond Street studio dominance in the mid-1960s.

Why it matters: Duke Reid embodies sound-system competition becoming label success. His productions remain reference points for rocksteady collectors and for understanding how street promotion fed studio A&R.
