Butterfly

The Butterfly is a dancehall step involving leg crosses and hip rotation — widely taught in the 1990s and 2000s — that appears in queen contests, session circles, and international dancehall workshop curricula.

Why it matters: Butterfly belongs to the canon of moves non-Jamaican fans first encounter. Its persistence in classes shows how certain steps become pedagogical standards for diaspora dance communities.
