Shenseea

Chinsea Linda Lee (born 1 October 1996), known professionally as Shenseea (), is a Jamaican singer. She is best known for her guest appearance alongside Roddy Ricch on Kanye West's 2021 song "Pure Souls," which entered the Billboard Hot 100. Through its parent album Donda, she was nominated as a featured artist for Album of the Year at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. She is credited with widening the audience for the dancehall scene.

Shenseea signed with Interscope Records to release her debut studio album Alpha (2022), which peaked at number two on the Top Reggae Albums chart. Her second album, Never Gets Late Here (2024), was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Her other accolades include two MOBO Awards.

Early life and education

Lee was born in Mandeville to a black Jamaican mother and a South Korean father, from whom she is estranged. She graduated from Mona High School and attended Excelsior Community College (Exed) in Kingston, where she studied Entertainment Management before dropping out due to financial difficulties. She aspired to become a singer at a young age.

    Sean Paul Releases ‘Scorcha,’ a 16-Track Eighth Album With Sia, Gwen Stefani, Shenseea, Damian Marley and Nicky Jam

    The Dutty Rock boss returns on May 27, 2022 through Island Records with Scorcha — sixteen tracks recorded across Kingston, Los Angeles, Montreal, Miami and New York, led by the Gwen Stefani and Shenseea collaboration ‘Light My Fire,’ and an album-release show at The Novo in Los Angeles the same night.

    Shenseea Releases ‘Never Gets Late Here,’ Her Second Album, With Wizkid, Anitta, Coi Leray, Masicka and Di Genius

    Out May 24, 2024 through Rich Immigrants and Interscope, the 14-track follow-up to Alpha is executive-produced by London on da Track and arrives with a Kingston-shot video for ‘Flava.’ ‘Still maintaining my Jamaican authenticity, I infused my affinity for other genres such as Pop and R&B,’ Shenseea says.

    ‘Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired by the Film’ Wins Best Reggae Album at the 67th Grammys, Over Vybz Kartel, Shenseea, Collie Buddz and The Wailers

    The 10-track covers album — Skip Marley, Mystic Marley, Shenseea, Wizkid, Kacey Musgraves, Daniel Caesar, Leon Bridges, Farruko, Jessie Reyez and Bloody Civilian singing Bob Marley — took the category at the Premiere Ceremony in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025, a year after Julian Marley’s win. Kartel and Shenseea, both first-time nominees, were in the room. ‘Bob’s legacy continues,’ Olivia Grange said; not everyone in Jamaica agreed.

    Shenseea Leads Dancehall and Lila Iké Tops Reggae at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards in Trinidad

    At the fourth Caribbean Music Awards — the first staged in the region, at NAPA in Port of Spain on September 19, 2026 — Shenseea took Female Dancehall Artist of the Year plus Dancehall Song and Collaboration of the Year for the ‘Shake It to the Max (FLY)’ remix with MOLIY, Silent Addy and Skillibeng. Lila Iké was named Female Reggae Artist of the Year again and won Reggae Collaboration of the Year for ‘Romantic’ with Masicka. Buju Banton, Chronixx, Protoje and Keznamdi rounded out a strong Jamaican reggae showing.

    Shenseea Drops the Armour on ‘Vulnerability’ — and Films It as a Therapy Session

    Six days after sweeping three dancehall awards in Trinidad, Shenseea released the most personal record of her career. ‘Vulnerability,’ out September 25, 2026 on Columbia / Since ’93, names the father she never met, the mother she lost and the walls she built in between. The official video stages it as a therapy session. It is in the Listen library now.
