Jah Decko

Jah Decko is the stage name of **Darl Douglas**, born in Paramaribo, Suriname, and raised in Amsterdam. He is a roots reggae singer, singjay and producer — not a Jamaican-born artist, but part of the wider Caribbean and European roots circuit that JamaicansMusic covers alongside the island’s own catalogue.

Scouted by Ajax as a boy, he spent about fourteen years as a professional footballer before turning fully to music. In 2003 he formed **Dreddayouthz**, singing Surinamese lyrics on roots reggae riddims — a local first for Surinamese artists — and built **Dredda Records** with cousin Marvin Nijhove and musical partner Jacques Nagelhout.

As a producer he steered Joggo’s *Modern Rockers Vol. 1* (2011), Ziggi Recado’s *Liberation* EPs (2012) and Miriam Simone’s *Mount Zion* (2015). His own EP *Rastafar-I Way* (2020) introduced collaborator Ras Mendel.
