Burning Spear (Winston Rodney) has publicly put his 2026 live album Call On Me (Live) forward for Grammy consideration. On 5 October 2026 the roots veteran posted on Facebook with a short message aimed at Recording Academy voters, DancehallMag reports: “For your Grammy consideration. Call on me.”

The post describes the project as “16 tracks 16 awesome vibes” and files it under “Roots and Culture”, DancehallMag notes. It also tags Dj weed seed and Suncity Radio 104.9 FM — a nod to the radio support behind the push.

Important: this is a for-your-consideration campaign by the artist. It is not a Recording Academy nomination. Nominations are announced separately by the Academy after its own screening and voting process.

The album

Call On Me (Live) is billed as Burning Spear & Friends on Reggaeville, which lists a digital release through Burning Music Production on 14 April 2026. The 16-track sequence pairs Rodney’s live roots set with guest voices across the diaspora — from Julian Marley and Jesse Royal to Luciano, Big Youth, Queen Ifrica, Glen Washington, Alpha Blondy and Hempress Sativa, among others listed on the release page.

Grammy context

Rodney is no stranger to the Best Reggae Album category. Grammy.com records two wins — Calling Rastafari (2000) and Jah Is Real (2009) — and a long run of nominations in the field dating back to 1986. His most recent nomination was No Destroyer at the 2024 ceremony, per the same artist page.

That history sits apart from this week’s Facebook post — archive context, not news of a new nomination. Whether Call On Me (Live) advances through the Academy’s screening process will be known only when official nominations are announced.

Heritage

Burning Spear emerged from the Studio One era and built one of the defining catalogues in roots reggae — records such as Marcus Garvey (1975) that tied Rastafari consciousness to Garveyite politics and a meditative one-drop pulse. At 78, Rodney continues to record and tour on his own terms through Burning Music Production, and a self-posted Grammy appeal fits that independent streak.

Why it matters

Sixteen tracks is a generous serving at a time when many artists keep projects lean for streaming habits. For listeners who value Rodney’s long, hypnotic grooves — and a live-room energy carried by guests from Jamaica and beyond — the length is the point. The Facebook post is brief; the album, released digitally in April, is where the case is made in sound.
