    From Chocomo Lawn to Brentford Road: Dennis Brown at Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd’s Studio One, 1968–1970

    A nine-year-old who sang atop beer crates with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires follows the same path as Bob Marley to Studio One on Brentford Road. By twelve, Dennis Brown is cutting sides for Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd — the sessions that would yield No Man Is an Island and If I Follow My Heart.

    Tosh and Bunny Walk: The Wailers Split and Peter Tosh Goes Solo, 1974

    After Lee Perry’s ‘Catch a Fire’ sides and the Island Records deal that reshaped the group around Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer quit the Wailers in 1974. Tosh keeps the militant fire — cutting for Perry, opening his own label and preparing the solo statement that becomes ‘Legalize It.’

    ‘No Nuclear War’: Peter Tosh’s Final Album Wins the Grammy for Best Reggae Recording, 1987

    Released months before his death, ‘No Nuclear War’ is Peter Tosh’s last studio statement — a plea against atomic weapons and apartheid that won the Grammy for Best Reggae Recording at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards. The Stepping Razor’s final bow came with the Recording Academy’s highest reggae honour.

    Pon Di Gaza 2.0: Vybz Kartel Brands a Movement and Drops One of Dancehall’s Busiest Albums, 2010

    With thirty-five tracks and a roster of Gaza-affiliated artists, Pon Di Gaza 2.0 formalises the Gaza Empire as more than a camp — it is a franchise. Kartel is at the height of his commercial and creative powers, and dancehall’s centre of gravity shifts to Portmore.

    Produced by Dre Skull on the Di Genius riddim, ‘Clarks’ — with Gaza Slim and Popcaan — becomes one of the defining singles of the decade. The song sends sales of the British desert boot soaring in Jamaica and cements Kartel’s gift for turning everyday culture into chart history.

    Smokin' Jacket, one of Kingston's most well known event franchises, was true to the theme: Girls' Night Out an all female revue. Hosted by recording artiste Farenheit, the show saw friends and fans enjoying the chilled out vibe at the classy and chic Carlos Cafe Restaurant and Bar.
