Now that he's getting the respect he deserves as a hit-maker, DJ Marley Waters has unveiled plans for his single as a solo artist, with 'Wine Pon It’. We caught up with Waters to find out more about his musical journey. JAMusic:Music lovers globally will always be looking for that new, impeccable sound that can be looked upon as leaders of the new wave of vocalists. How would you define a musical genius that can eventually become a vocal leader?MW: Genius is a relative term but, I'm all about making waves so, I just make music that feels good to me &, those who want that “feel good” vibe with the sound.JAMusic: Some of the most genius artistes have thrived when taking chances and innovating. How important/present is that on the soundscape today; from what you've seen and that might have help in composing your singles?MW: Life is a chance, birth is a blessing. God granted me a gift. Its only right, I use my gift and life experience to narrate my script.

JAMusic: Before entering the world of music, what life events framed the path of your professional journey?MW: I was born an entertainer. Performing at such a young age. Growing up in the church. Feeling a higher power through the aid of spiritual energy and music. Watching my dad's love for music & his journey as a musician. Losing my best friend, DJ Henry, was tough. After that, I was committed to use my voice for a higher purpose.

JAMusic: What elements do you hold that’ll define you as an entertainer as oppose to just another artiste?MW: My authenticity, delivery & approach to performing. Paying attention to the details, paying homage, and being diverse within the world of music.

JAMusic: What's the biggest risk you've taken artistically; one that went over surprisingly well and one that might've gone over people's heads?MW: Dropping out of college with just a year left until graduation. I left everything and everyone. Moved to LA with $200 bucks. The next move was taking my talents to South Beach here in Miami. No one really knows what or why I moved to Miami. However, we shall show the world. #NuKingdom

JAMusic: What do you consider to be the greatest obstacle that you had overcome in achieving your current status?MW: Overcoming The fear. After losing my best friend to police homicide and my ex girlfriend to a suicide, I was hesitant about how far I would even make it. But then I realized my purpose is bigger. I’m here for a reason and I cant stop until change is made!

JAMusic: Who's the artiste that keeps you on your toes? Pushes you to go harder?MW: Honestly, I'm self-motivated. So I'm always pushing my own boundaries.

JAMusic: What would you consider to be the greatest contributor to your musical diversity and versatility?MW: My own life experience, personal encounters & my travels.

JAMusic: How does your musical influences compound when you are sitting to write a song and record it? / Apart from them being timeless, what drew you to all the artistes that influence your sound?MW: I am a student of this game. Any music, no matter the genre, if it’s truly innovative art, I can easily become influenced. JAMusic: What's one song that you hold close to you because of a particular line or better yet what's the most philosophical quote you've heard in a song that you hold close to your heart?MW: “The World wasn’t made for one man to rule alone” - Nas

JAMusic: We live in an era where the average person's attention span is limited to what they want to see or hear. What are you doing differently that will hold their attention?MW: Staying consistent and being true to Quality.

JAMusic: With success comes a lot of negative feedback, how do you react or deal with negativity?MW: I love criticism. I have an open heart and no feelings towards negativity. Now disrespect is another issue…

JAMusic: When you look to the future, what are some of the areas you’d like to change professionally and personally?MW: As I mentioned, I am a student to this game. Im also young. As long as I stay a student and about my business, I will continue to evolve in all areas.

JAMusic: What insight can you give on the power of music and its ability to communicate certain messages verbally and non-verbally? And what do you think your music represent?MW: Music is the universal language. It has no borders or prejudice. That's what my music represents.

JAMusic: What's the purpose on your musical journey? What's the message you're trying to give?MW: Live, Love Laugh & Learn. Be as Free as you want to feel.
