Kingston's latest live music soirée, Live and Revive, was inaugurated last Monday at Macau Gaming Lounge and Bar. To kick start the series organizers booked popular Jamaican guitarist Maurice Gordon. Along with friends Oliver Thompson (drums) and Adrian Henry (bass guitar) the trio treated their audience to a calming fusion of contemporary jazz and reggae with a tinge of ska, setting the tone of the series.
This new series results from the collaborative effort of friends Regina Beavers,Shani Davies, Rasheed McCallum and Nicholas Ashton who recognized that live music has gathered quite the momentum on the local entertainment scene and saw an opportunity to build on it. This however is not just the typical live music offering.
"Our aim is to Revive Jazz, Revive Live Music and to Revive Monday Nights in an intimate, elegant setting at the Macau Gaming Lounge and Bar. We will also be incorporating Reggae and Acoustic acts in order to highlight our Jamaican culture in a positive light," Beavers told Jamaicansmusic. She explained that Jazz music in particular has unfortunately been overshadowed by the more mainstream genres and as such Jazz artistes very rarely have a platform to show their talent.
Recognizing that there is indeed a demand though, the group has conceptualized an event catering to a more mature audience, one who appreciates jazz and live music by extension. Beavers professed that "Experiencing Live and Revive will offer a new outlook on possibilities for entertainment on a Monday night as each patron will be guaranteed an ambiance that oozes sophistication and elegance in an intimate setting that matches the quality acts from the Reggae, Jazz, and Acoustic scene."
For $2000JM persons will enjoy a two and a half hour set of live entertainment with Appleton VX rum flowing through 5:30 to 11:00pm. Along with a superb entertainment package the admission also affords patrons a complementary $10USD to indulge in the gaming lounge later in the night.
When asked about what the team has in store for patrons weeks to come Beavers revealed, "We will consistently be tapping into the Jazz, Reggae and Acoustic scene with acts such as Rootz Underground, Desi Jones and Friends, Stephanie Wallace Maxwell, Jahcoostic, SkyGrass, plus some very special surprises. We cant let all the cats out the bag just yet. But, the truth is whichever Monday you choose to come you will be guaranteed a great show, elegant ambiance and an experience you'll never forget."
This Monday, 19th March features Italian Guitarists- Samuele Vivian.
