The Jamaican dub poet Yasus Afari was born John SInclair in 1962 in St. Elizabeth.

It was while in high school he realized his love for writing and poetry, as his first poem "The Travelling Sun" won an award at school. He then went on to eventually produce 2 books "Eye Pen" and "Overstanding Rastafari : Jamaica's Gift to the World", both of which were well received in Jamaica and the wider Rastafarian community.

Yasus Afari has also successfully completed 5 albums after a rocky start to his music career. His first recording "Anti-Litter Law" in 1986 was not commercially successful. Soon after this however, he teamed up with a childhood friend Garnett SIlk, and it was at this point that his musical career turned around. His first album "Dancehall Baptism" was released in 1993 and this was swiftly followed by "Mental Assassin" in 1995. He later produced "Honour Crown" (1997), "Gift of Vijjahn" (2000), and "Revolution Chapter 1" (2007).

The Jamaican poet has toured widely in the United States, the UK and in the Pacific Islands, particularly in the mid-1990's. He even toured Ethiopia in 1996. He co-headlined the Cayman Music festival in 2006 alongside Maxi Priest and Freddie McGregor.

He continues to spread his message of understanding of Rastafarian culture both locally and abroad, in such a way that both Rastafarians and non-Rastafarians alike can appreciate his knowledge and wisdom.
