Wayne Wonder is a Jamaican reggae fusion artist who's extensive repertoire includes dancehall, reggae, rap and hip-hop.

The prolific Jamaican was born Von Wayne Charles on July 26th, 1972 in the beautiful seaside region of Buff Bay, Portland. Wonder got his first introduction to music while attending Sunday School as a child and this gave him the encouragement he needed to begin songwriting at the young age of 13. His career got an early break when we scored a weekly performance spot at Metro Media in Allman Town. He began working with Black Uhuru and while this gave him exposure, it proved to be a slight setback in his advancement as his touring commitment preventing Sly Dunbar from Sonic Sound from signing him. However, Wayne soon overcame this disappointment as he auditioned for King Tubby who eventually produced his first single "Long and Lasting Love" in 1985, and followed this with two quick singles. To the shock of most persons in the local music industry, Tubby was killed in 1988 and this left Wayne looking for another producer to work with. This led him back to Sonic Sound where he recorded the hit "It's Over Now" and his first album "No More Chance".

When the opportunity came for him to begin working at Penthouse Studios with an old primary-school friend, Dave Kelly, he quickly seized it and this improved his fortunes drastically . The pair went on to produce a string of hits beginning with "Saddest Day" and this led to the production of his second album titles "Part 2".

In 1992 he began touring internationally with Penthouse, beginning with the UK with fellow Penthouse artistes such as Buju Banton and Tony Rebel. This association led Wayne to begin writing songs for Buju including "Boom Bye Bye" which attracted much controversy. Wayne even recorded a few songs with Buju including "Bonafide Love".

In 2000, Wonder launched his own record label called Singso, and this was when his music began to incorporate other music genres with the release of another album "Da Vibe". Thus led him to collaborate with some major international artistes at the time, most notably Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Foxy Brown and "Jason Dalyrimple". His move towards a more hip-hop sound was most evident in his 2001 album "Schizophrenic".

His career went international when he signed for Atlantic Records achieving worldwide success with "No Letting Go" in 2003, which reached #11 on US charts and #3 on UK charts. The album "No Holding Back" was also a major success on urban radio stations in the US. This prompted the release of several compilation albums which included old Wonder material and new work.

In total Wayne Wonder has released 12 albums and a string of hit singles which has made him a celebrity both locally in Jamaica and across the world.
