read full storyWayne Smith is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall musician who was born in Waterhouse Kingston on December 5th, 1965.
Smith is credited with changing the history of reggae with the computerized rhythm called "Slent Teng". It was Smith who found the computerized sound in the keyboard with the assistance of Noel Davey. They slowed down the rhythm and matched it to a key that was comfortable for Smith to sing on. They then took the rhythm to Jammy Studio who placed a clap on the rhythm but was still skeptical about releasing the song as it was markedly different from anything that was currently popular. The song was however played on Prince Jammy sound was instantly successful and quickly became number one all over the world.
It was from this point on that reggae music began to change and Wayne Smith was credited with changing the course and subsequent history of reggae music around the world.
