Jamaican Singer and Song Writer, Kim Monique Hamilton was born on December 5th, 1990. She is the youngest of seven siblings. She attended Ascot High and graduated in 2008. Kim developed a love for music at an early age. However she didn't start turning heads until she started Primary School. By the time she got to high school, others started taking notice also. If asked people will say that Kim is a very jovial young lady who is always trying to bring out the best in the people around her. Kim is always entertaining and with the help of her music teacher, she starting performing with the school choir, her first accomplishment was winning a gold medal for performing the hit single Reflections by Jah Cure.
With that boost of confidence Kim started entering a lot of school competitions that proved successful. Kim with the guidance of her Music teacher and Brother Ryan Hamilton started entering competitions like, magnum kings and queens, Jamaica Rising Stars and Tastee talent shows. However her big break did not come until she signed with Adidjaheim Records in July of 2009. While signed to Adidjaheim Records Kim's first single was Teenage Pregnancy which gained raving reviews. She also released Bills ft Lisa Hype, Amen, and a remake of Shabba Ranks Twice my age ft Vybz Kartel, just to name a few of the many hits Kim has performed.
During her short stint in the Portmore Empire lead by Vybz Kartel Kim was nominated for Best New Female Artist from the EME (Excellence in Music and Entertainment). Even though Kim didn't win, the nomination in it self was a win. Kim felt that being in the business professional for less than an year and being nominated was more than she could have asked for. Even though her stay with Adidjaheim Records was short, Kim left knowing that it was only going to get better. Since leaving Adidjaheim Records Kim has since released a few singles including but not limited to My Cry, Leave Me Nuh, Cotton Candy, This is love and Haffi Come Back.
The single "Haffi Come Back" was produced by Payday Music Group. Which is an affiliate of the Alliance Group. Kim has since become an official member of the Alliance Family, a group Governed by none other than Bounty Killer. Kim has been working closely with Bounty Killer's Producer Austin "Payday" Green. She has recorded a number of songs with Payday Music Group schedule to be released in 2011. Kim has performed both locally and through out the Caribbean.
Kim has her eyes set on traveling to every continent to bring positive music to everyone. When ask Kim credits her musical influence to Tanya Stephens, Queen Ifrica and Lady Saw. Kim describes herself has being passionate about music, hard working and willing and ready to learn all aspect of the music business. With her willingness to learn she sometimes moonlighted has a Disc Jockey for sound in her home town. She has promised to make all her songs uplifting and positive.
Kym formally from Portmore Empire, Kym is young, vibrant, and she's new to the business, however she have the gift to survive this business as female Dancehall Artistes. It's a known fact that young females have it hard in this male dominated business, however with the help of "Di Teacha" Vybz Kartel, Kym and the other female member of the Gaza Crew Lisa Hyper, appears to be working their way towards becoming hit makers like their male counterparts, Blak Ryno, Shawn Storm and Jah Vinci.
I first heard Kym on the hit duet single "Teenage Pregnancy" and "Twice My Age" with Vybz Kartel. Many may not give the song credit for the raw portrayal of pregnancy situations in Jamaica because of the delivery, however I feel it was a perfect way of expressing the harsh reality. She may not realize this yet, and I may be the first to notice, that she has a very authentic Dancehall voice similar to those of 80's and 90's female Dancehall Artists. Kym use that vocal delivery with a modern twist, which helps to make her songs more original Dancehall.
In time Kym will become a strong competitor for top upcoming female Artists of the year. If you doubt my prediction, check out "Twice My Age", "Amen", "Bill" featuring Lisa Hype and "Amen". This is a female artist who's album I am looking forward to hearing one day. I hope she don't fall off the radar like several female artists before her.
