read full storyKariz-Matikk is a new upcoming Dancehall/Reggae artist with great versatility, lyrical content, delivery and excellent writing skills. His musical journey started in the church as he use to sing on the choir and attend church religiously with his brothers and sisters. Despite his Christian up bringing he took a liking to Dancehall music and became almost obsessed with its hardcore sound and Pulsating beats.
Due to this new found love for Dancehall music he started collecting Dancehall instrumental Rhythms and began writing and singing on them for fun. He then took it a step further by obtaining and selecting the most popular Dancehall Rhythms at that particular time and began recording demos. At the time he was attending St.Andrew Technical High and would take the new found talent which he was grooming to enter informal “clashes” at school which he won most of the times.
During his days at school he formed the group called Full Force with his brother Noel and his friends from the community Joel and Jude.The group would rehearse on his mother’s porch and his sister Natalie would take on somewhat of managerial role by helping them with their harmonies, stage performance and all other necessities needed to become a good group. With all the elements acquired the group began performing at popular community concerts and different stage shows across Jamaica. They won many competitions including the code of conduct talent series, and recorded demos and even appeared on the cable station Yardbeat now called RETV.Due to different interest and goals the group later disbanded.
Despite this set back , he "ran" into an old friend called Peju Watson who started a label called Venom Records. He invited him to join his label which he did and has been recording continuously with the label ever since. There is an undeniable chemistry between the two which cemented his interest in the Label even more, as Kariz-Matikk lyrics and melodies fit seamlessly on Peju’s Hardcore cutting edge
Dancehall beats .He has tracks on almost every Rhythm the Label has produced, as he will be the “flag ship” for the Label. The first single that was released by him was “No love for Ghetto Youths” on the Vipa Rhythm which is currently on You Tube,Facebook and other online social Networks. In addition to this a video for the single was also done, which received good rotation on Hype tv and R.E Tv that landed him and interview and performance segment on "Up and Live" on Hype Tv.
His latest singles includes "Bad Mind Tek Over" and "Dance "which are currently in rotation on Hype Tv and both receiving great reviews."Bad Mind Tek Over" was a "Hot Pick" just ahead of Lady Saw's "Heel On" earlier in the Year while "Dance" which is a up tempo Dance story base video, went straight to number 6 on Hype Tv's VTX count down.
He is managed by Peju Watson and Kemar Baylis (Kemist) of Venom Records who will ensure that he takes his rightful place in Dancehall Music as one of the Best Dancehall Artist in Jamaica. He draws inspiration from his now deceased father Donald Walsh and his sister who also sings professionally and has always been his musical support system. With this support system and his talent his success is inevitable.
