It is the promise of every artiste that "I am going to make it". However, only a few live to see the fulfillment of this dream. Whatever needs to be present inside a person's being in order for them to achieve their goals, is obviously present in one such artist. Denrick Pinnock, who is simply known as "Denno", is a talented young artist who possesses these attributes.
Born on April 28th in a small district in Clarendon, Jamaica, Denno was exposed to music since day one. This early introduction to the intricacies of the music business came as a result of his father being the operator of the Killer Vicious Sound System. Both parents were music lovers so it was no surprise that by the time Denno turned eight, he was already taking advantage of the full measure of his career options by dazzling audiences on his father's sound system wherever he played. His confident delivery of "Good Education and Good Nutrition" was evidence that he was made for this craft. Though written by his friend Bradshaw, this song brought into focus his fascination with wholesome issues and honed his writing skills. It is therefore safe to state that from these early beginnings, it could be easily discerned that music is in his blood.
Towing along with his family, Denno had to leave Clarendon in 2000 and moved to Portmore, which is in the parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica. It was here he completed his schooling at Bridgeport High School, where he concentrated more on his academic studies and hardly ever participated in any musically related activities. Upon graduation from high school, he sought vocational training by enrolling at the HEART Academy to earn a certificate in Welding. His mother soon fell ill and passed away in 2005, but that didn't hinder him from pushing forward despite losing his number one fan. Though encountering many ups and downs, Denno still had the support of his father and grandmother.
Denno used his drive within himself to enter several local talent competitions from 1996 to 2006, beginning with Tastee's Talent Search. He then tried out for Digicel's Rising Stars from its inception and finally at Magnum King and Queen of Dancehall. Unfortunately though, his raw talent and inexperience restricted Denno from advancing pass the auditions. His determination never allowed him to stop trying which eventually manifested into him meeting Carlington "Bouka" Carter. Bouka saw the potential in this young artist and started grooming Denno's musical career. In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Denno had his first recording done called "Prayer For The Haitians", a collaboration with his childhood friend Ojah. It was produced by Joseph Moore on the Earth Productions label and had arrangements by the legendary musician Dean Fraser.
This exposure to the recording studio helped to mold his craft more than before. Fate would then turn in his favour when Bouka met and introduced Denno to Jyorken Kennedy, CEO of Master One Productions. Kennedy was so enthralled by Denno's talent and lyrical perception that he immediately began working with Denno, first by signing him to Master One Productions label. With this new team behind his career, Denno embarked on a musical frenzy with a hectic schedule that produced such singles as "Dem Nuh Real", "Mi Feel It" and "Make It". Once released, these singles received heavy rotations and even enjoyed prominent positions on several charts, including CVM TV's "Hit List", with the medley video of "Mi Feel It" and "Make It".
On the heels of his current success, Denno has performed for thousands of children on the RETV School Tour, getting great crowd reception from all the students. He has now developed his skills in stage presence and says the experience so far has been overwhelming. He has a plethora of tracks in their production stages soon to be released, as well as continuous promotion of his latest single "Caah Stop Dah Yute Yah" which has been receiving much airplay while gaining more listeners to his sound and vibe. A video was done for this new hit track and released in April 2011.
The optimistic track "Make It" appears to be prophetic in a sense, as Denno now seems firmly rooted on his journey to musical recognition. If present trends are indicative of what the future holds, the Denno is certainly on his way. His confident assertion "I am going to make it' will indeed carry him along the long road to be placed among the ranks of the chosen few who have managed to see their vision of musical stardom become a reality. Denno is committed to keeping it clean and positive, while remaining fresh and entertaining in this competitive industry as a reality artiste who has been through many adversities. As he already knows, this is no easy task but with Master One Productions beside him all the way, it would not be unreasonable to assume that based on the current developments in his life and career, that Denno has found the formula to truly make it.
One of his other releases is "Tek Mi Life" on the Life Cycle Riddim produced by Frenz For Real Productions. The video was A Slingshot Video, directed by Asha and shot on location in Jamaica. It was released on September 20, 2011 and was premiered on CVM TV's The Hitlist. Denno has appeared on TVJ's Intense and other programs and is slated to perform on several local shows. The video can be seen all over Youtube, on several local and international websites and various tv stations.
