read full storyBorn January 6, 1989, blazing his way onto the dancehall scene is Andrew Folkes, better known as Blaazz, has been in the music industry professionally since 2006. Blaazz has been in love with music since the age of four. The twenty four old released his first single "Player Being Played" in 2006 with an accompanying video . Blaazz's "Wah Sleep" single which was released in 2009, generated steady rotation on radio stations island wide with the video going on to top the CVM E-Strip Hit list chart. A modest Youngman from a humble background, Blaazz has been writing music since the age of eight years old. After realizing his inclination for music, he began singing in his community and church. He continued honing his talent in high school and it was really no surprise that his favourite subject was English, a valuable tool for his career choice.
Blaazz, being a successful graduate of Excelsior High School , balanced both school and music as well as formed his own crew, the "Kollege Kru", with a few friends who were also musically talented. His determination never waned even though resources were not readily available to pursue his dream of becoming a lyrical artiste. His journey began after school in the days, trodding to several studios in and around the corporate area, sometimes standing in the rain hoping that one day his voice would be heard. His wait was not in vain as he entered into Gang Bang Studio one day and met the owner, Skatta Burrell who at the time was managing another artiste, Aidonia, who listened to him and gave him encouragement and advise which included his completion of school before going into the music industry fulltime.
Being an excellent student has paved the way for Blaazz, as he listened and embraced all constructive criticisms he received to perfect his skills. Mr. Isaiah Laing of Supreme Promotions who was a father figure in Blaazz's life was one of his hardest critiques and insisted that he completed school before entering the entertainment industry and assisted him financially during his high school years while giving him the medium to improve his craft. Blaazz did his first professional recorded single ‘Player Being Played’ along with a video in 2006 upon graduating from high school and has never looked back. He did ‘Wine and Bubble’ in 2007 and had his first real experience of how hard and heartless some players in the music industry can be, but that was not a deterrent. He took a break to rethink and refocus and in December of 2007 recorded ‘You Can Make It’ for Yard life Entertainment which was released in 2008 and received excellent airplay.
After the release and chart topping success of his wah sleep single in 2009, Blaazz had a quiet first half of 2010 however the pace began to increase after recording "nuh wah dead" with Shane-O and led to him having one of the biggest songs on radio that year in "Weh mi hear" a very comical song which spoke about hot dancehall topics at the time. Blaazz has been a ghost writer for prominent dancehall acts when he is not working on his music. Being as book and street smart as he is, Blaazz used writing as a medium of building his network in the industry.
Now signed to Moby's Records, a clarendon based label to which he was introduced to by veteran artist Kashu Man who has been and still is a teacher and has been giving assistance in the growth and development of his talent, Blaazz is set and ready to be one of dancehall's leading superstars and with team Moby's, has started not only planning but executing to see that this dream is realized. Blaazz attackkk!!!
