No stranger to the local live music scene, SkyGrass has spent the past few years wetting the appetites of reggae lovers, performing at some of the most illustrious music events across the island. With previously released singles such as High Grade Love and most recently Dusty Shoes, their island spiced feel good music has left fans wanting more. Finally their debut album I Am King is ready.
"I AM KING is about claiming your destiny, knowing that you are supposed to be here, you were created by the many moments leading up to this moment. If it had not been ordained how could it be so?" lead vocalist Simon Samuel explained about the album title.
Fans can expect 14 tracks of their signature sound, "a unique blend of reggae, rock and dancehall music," as Samuel describes it.The songs were written and produced by Samuel, with some assistance from close friend of the band and popular Italian guitarist Samuele Vivian. The acclaimed track 'High Grade Love' was done in collaboration with Wayne Armond of renowned Reggae outfit Chalice. On the subject of collaborations, featured on tracks on the album are Stephen Newland (Rootz Underground), Kabaka Pyramid and Jamaica's very own Stevie Wonder, Frankie Paul.
"We are really excited about releasing these songs to the world... so we can connect more with our fans," Samuel told Jamaicansmusic.com.
The band will officially launch the album on June 29th with a live music showcase in Kingston at Spartan Courtyard. They will also share the stage with Kabaka Pyramid and Stephen Newland, who as aforementioned are both featured on the album. See Press Release Here
"Everyone will have their own impression of the album... with that in mind, we just have the simple hope that they will find joy in listening, feel good about life and identify with the spirit of the music," Samuel expressed. He was sure however that once you are a live music fan, this album is for you.
I Am King will be available for purchase online through the various digital stores iTunes and Amazon and also available in hard copy (orders can be made through our fanpage at www.facebook.com/skygrassband). All attendees of the launch party will also receive a free copy.
Although the album is complete, the work has only just begun, "We currently have three videos in pre-production, and we intend to have at least two more music videos out by the end of the year," Samuel informed Jamaicansmusic.com adding "We have plans for tours in Europe and the U.S. West Coast. We havent sealed the dates as yet, but things are looking positive."
