Next Move: Barrington Levy readies acoustic album Image

A first in his musical journey, 50-year-old singjay Barrington Levy has begun work on an acoustic album; following recently released albums of the same nature from the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Tarrus Riley and Richie Spice.

Following a superb performance at the 2013 staging of Reggae Sumfest, Levy is ready to release an acoustic album which should include cult classics such as Living Dangerously, Under Mi Sensi and Murderer,

The yet-to-be-titled 'Unplugged' album is slated for a December release date on the singer's Black Roses label and is to be issued on vinyl only.

The first single is projected to be Things Friends; an unreleased single recorded three years ago.

It's expected to be a 12-track opus and will mainly be marketed to regions that still yearn for vinyl records; places such as Europe, Japan and the United States' west coast.

The album's concept seemed to have been sparked by Levy's management team following a meticulous analysis of artistes playing solely acoustic sets on the European festival circuit, much to the delight of fans.

"They said, 'yuh need to do a acoustic album wid yuh classical songs dem'," Levy explained. "I said, 'yeah, dat's a good idea' but I don't want to just do the classical song dem, I want to do song dat neva release."

The album is being produced by Handel Tucker – credited as the mastermind behind Maxi Priest's platinum-selling Bonafide album.
