With the festival set to kick into high gear come August 16th, we've compiled a list of 7 things that'll have you talking about the staging for the reminder of the year!

7. Countless Surprise

With so many artists together surprises are due to happen: collaborations on stage and special appearances are a common thing at of the festival’s staging. Last year Damian Marley showed up in the Dancehall area the day before his show for a brief showcase and Ricky Trooper put on a deejay show while Shinehead was his selector, so keep your eyes open you never know what is going to happen at this year

6. Beautiful People

Rototom Festival is a musical experience but also an opportunity to share your passion with thousands of other people. And the people are those who made the Sunsplash one of the biggest Reggae Festivals in the world. From the little disco club in Gaio di Spilimbergo to Benicassim, standing strong for 20 years.

5. The blossoming Culture

The festival doesn’t merely propel the idea and glorifying Reggae and Dancehall music, but has a rich and varied cultural program with a Social Forum and the Reggae University. The main theme for the Social Forum this year will be “Paths of Culture and Freedom”, and will be animated by debates on Palestine, Immigration, Tibet and processes of the legalization of cannabis. On the other hand the Reggae University will host a Film Festival, with “Journey to Jah”, “Living in Waterhouse”, “I am The Gorgon, Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee and the Roots of Reggae” and many more movies, and several panels on the Reggae world which will see the presence of artists inclusive of Chronixx, Addis Pablo, Jah9 and Midnite, among many others

4. The high-octane energy of Sean Paul and Shaggy

These two superstar will headline the Main Stage on the 20th and 22nd of August. The stand as two of the most beloved contemporary Jamaican artists, able to release instant hits year after year and conquering the pop charts without losing the love of the hardcore Dancehall lovers. Two shows not to be missed!

3. Sound System take over with Dub Academy and Dancehall Yard

These two areas are crucial for festivalgoers this year when the lights go down on the Main Stage. The first will be powered by the resident Blackboard Jungle sound system and will see lots of deejays and sounds at the controls. Among those include Mikey General, Brother Culture, Solo Banton and YT. But with the Dancehall Yard you’ll see big names from all over the world ready to set the festival on fire; Pow Pow, Rodigan, One Love Hi Powa, Heavy Hammer will represent the European scene, while Bass Odyssey, King Addies, Downbeat, Freddie Krueger, Stone Love and many more will fly in to Benicassim from Jamaica and the United States of America.

2. The full force of the Reggae Revival

This movement has taken over the charts both on the island of Jamaica as well as washing the world of negativity. In the past two years many artists have emerged bringing a new consciousness to the music, many of which will be on stage at the festival this year. From Chronixx,  Kabaka Pyramid and Jah 9 to Jesse Royal, Micah Shemaiah and Infinite, we expect their energy and messages will be propelled through the pulsating crowd.

1. The Mystic of Ms. Lauryn Hill

An artist that transcends the boundaries of Reggae but at the same time is deeply and strongly connected with the Jamaican culture, Ms. Lauryn Hill will have the honour of closing the show on the main stage on the last day. After years in music, Lauryn Hill lands on Rototom so Turn Your Lights Down Low and fully enjoy her performance!
