Biography
read full storyPhillip Wright –aka Cassafaya – grew up in Fletcher’s land ghetto, right in Downtown, Kingston, JA.
His grandma - who raised him - named him the “toilets singer”, a cute nickname he wanted to get
rid of as soon as possible. He gained respect in the musical field by winning at the age of 15 several
singing contests, which enabled him to fix the family house.
After that, his mentors were Gregory Isaacs and Jr Reid, great reggae artists who revealed him all of
their secrets. He sang alongside Sizzla, Sugar Minott, Bunny Wailer, and some of the greatest hits
were created under Cassafaya’s inspiration, in his studio, such as Temperature from Sean Paul. Still
today, when he holds the microphone on stage shows, the crowd gets crazy: Cassafaya is one hell of
a showman, he loves it and that’s quite clear when you see him.
This 39 year-old Jamaican artist has already toured the US, Brazil, French Guyana as well as Europe
with sometimes more than 10 000 people in the audience. Blessed by the gift of 3 children, he
dropped the microphone to fulfill his dream: to raise them. Recently though, music was calling him
again: it was way too hard to resist and it came back into his daily life. Still, he misses the stage. He
misses the audience, that energy.
His main musical repertoire, from Reggae to Dancehall, enables him to give a show for 2 hours,
piece of cake. After getting back on the stage in Jamaica, Cassafaya is now ready to set the European
crowds on fire for the summer 2013, alongside Ben Hompaya, a French artist who found a label with
him: Hompaya Music Production.
